Which Script is Right for Me?

This will depend on what you wish to accomplish. If you want to develop a simple personal page, you can start by installing a Form mail script to obtain feedback from your visitors. Or, you may want to send your visitors more information about your products or services by using a mailing list management script. We offer a free, shareware version called Subscribe Me, you can find it here.

If you are developing an E-Commerce website, then you may need a shopping cart. Or, perhaps a shopping cart with the added advantage of an affiliate system so others can promote your products for you. We offer a shopping cart with affiliate system called Commission Cart. If you want to protect some of your pages for members only, then you can install a password protection script. We offer a free version called Account Manager Lite for free memberships or for paid memberships, we offer Account Manager Professional.

Many scripts are available today to make your website interactive, user friendly, traffic generating, money making and fun to visit. The following is a list of a few types of CGI scripts that can be found on the web: counter, form, discussion forum, password protection, e-mail management, shopping cart, chat, download management, suggest a site, opinion poll, survey, quiz, database management, calendar of events, banner ads, rating, site search, and many more.

Finding suitable scripts for your site is the first and important phase of installing any script. It would be too time consuming to try every script available, so there are a few questions to ask yourself to make sure that the script is right for you. Start by looking at the information available about the script on its website.

• What are the programs requirements?
• Does your server meet these requirements?
• Is there a demonstration of the script? (most script writers provide one)
• What features are listed for the script?
• What kind of support is included with the script? (such as FAQ pages, help forums and e-mail support).
• Does the script writer or company offer installation services?

If you are satisfied with the information you have discovered about a script, then you are ready to download it. Once downloaded you will need an unzip utility to extract the downloaded file. WinZip is a popular utility, as it can unzip most files. WinZip can be downloaded free of charge at Move the unzipped files into a separate folder in your local hard drive.
